Akshay Kumar is an Indian film actor, producer and martial artist who has appeared in over a hundred Hindi films. He was born in Amritsar, Punjab. From a very young age, he was recognised as a performer. He was raised in Delhi`s Chandni Chowk neighbourhood.

In Mumbai, Akshay Kumar lived in Koliwada. He studied at Don Bosco School and then Guru Nanak Khalsa College. He studied martial arts in Bangkok, where he learnt Muay Thai and worked as a chef and waiter.

Akshay Kumar started teaching martial arts. One of his students recommended him to do modeling, and gave him an assignment for a company. He chose to be a model. After a couple of months, he was offered a lead role for the movie Deedar.
