Angela Davis is an American political activist, scholar, and author. Angela Davis was most politically active during the late 1960s through the 1970s and was associated with the Communist Party USA, the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Panther Party.

Angela Davis is the founder of an organization working to abolish the prison-industrial complex. Angela Davis is presently a retired professor with the History of Consciousness Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz and is the former director of the university`s Feminist Studies department.

Angela Davis was born in Birmingham, Alabama. Her father, Frank, was briefly a high school history teacher. Her mother, Sallye, was an elementary school teacher. Angela Davis has 2 brothers, Ben, played defensive back for the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions and Reginald. She also has a sister Fania Jordan. Angela Davis attended Carrie A. Tuggle School; later she attended Parker Annex, a middle-school branch of Parker High School in Birmingham.
